Takeout Turnaround
we collaborate with local restaurants to assess their needs and help them transition to more sustainable takeout materials.
About Us
Our Background
Takeout Turnaround is a student-run organization led by students at University High School, based in Tucson, Arizona. We have a club at UHS to provide an opportunity for other students to become involved with the project. Our team leaders are Aiko Levine, Salma Pedersoli, Savannah Duclo, and William Levine.
Success Stories From Our Partners
Daniel Scordato, the owner of the prominent local restaurant Vivace, located on Skyline and Campbell, is a trailblazer in making the push to become more sustainable. After several meetings between Takeout Turnaround, Daniel Scordato, and Western Paper (our sustainable suppliers), Scordato has decided to lead the initiative in using compostable, sustainable restaurant materials in his new restaurant, Uptown Burger (coming soon). Keep a look out for Scordato’s contribution to our environment, as Uptown Burger will utilize eco-friendly products such as paper trays, aluminum cups, and fiber containers.
Just across the street from Vivace, Uptown Burger will be a high-end burger restaurant that encompasses what it means to be sustainable. Not only incorporating eco-friendly products with the help of Takeout Turnaround, Uptown Burger also sells eco and dietary-friendly meals, ranging from keto to vegetarian, improving both earth and consumer health. Uptown Burger and Dan Scordato are making an amazing contribution to Tucson, so come check them out, and support Tucson’s very own environmental pioneers in the restaurant industry.

Work in Progress: Takeout Turnaround is very excited to announce that we are collaborating with our very own Tucson Unified School District (TUSD) in a project to reduce plastic waste throughout the school district. TUSD has received a grant to assist with the transition to more sustainable materials. TUSD is planning to implement paper trays and more eco-friendly containers in school lunches. Given the large number of students in the school district, the potential impact here is huge. Takeout Turnaround is assisting TUSD in providing a student organization to help test and implement their changes. Some possibilities including partnering with UHS’s Sustainability Class to create a compositing system for the new lunch materials. We will keep you updated on this exciting project!
